Wow Burning Crusade Trial Key

I am trying to download the Burning Crusade free World of Warcraft Trial?

I don't have a WoW account, but I am getting one soon and I went to download the Burning Crusade free trial, but it said that I needed a retail account. So my friend gives me an authentication key code she read over the phone to me; it's on her box when she bought the Burning Crusade, and I typed it into the thing online that says that's all they need for me to download a 10 day free trial, but it isn't working. Any suggestions as to why? Do I need the disc? Or would this still not work unless I had a regular WoW account?

You can't play burning crusade with a trial account. The trial is for Vanilla WoW. The burning crusade is an expansion pack, and to even set foot in it, you must be at least level 58.

And the trial limits you level 20, so just download the original wow, play it, and then register your account. Keep playing until you hit 58, and then pay for the expansion (upgrade key is sold seperately from your monthly charge).

Because until you hit level 58, you don't need anything more than the base vanilla wow.

I have a question on upgrading a WoW trial?? [HELP PLEASE]?

my 10 day trial ended yesterday and i really liked WoW
i went out today and bought the world of warcraft battle chest
so my question is, what do i do now?
do i go to account management on the WoW page and put my authentication key?or do i install the cd's first?
also, do i install the orginal WoW first and THEN the burning crusade?
im kinda confused so could someone explain to me what i should do now? also i heard something about patches? what is that exactly?

Start by downloading the Original WoW, as you download a pop up appears and asks if you would like to upgrade your account, click yes and follow the steps. This can be done as the download is in progress. When this is done download BurnCrus and another popup will appear to upgrade your account again for BC. Again this can be done while downloading.

Patches are changes to the game, since you played teh trail version i would think that you already downloaded some patches. But, nevertheless when you start up wow for the first time after download you will be asked to download the patches this can be done by simply click on the download patch button when it appears on the character select screen ( you'll know what i mean when you see it ). After teh patch is done go back onto wow and you probably have to download more so brace yourself for long download times.
