Why do you go to your gas station? What would a new gas station / mini-mart have to do to earn your business?
We inherited a gas station that had poor management & multiple owners in the past 5 years. It's a great location on a VERY busy street. I was in the station for 2 hours Saturday. During that time, across the street, the Mobil had well over seventy cars stop. We had one. Our one 'customer' bought nothing, just asked for directions.
We will make many changes. If we were in your town what would you want and expect from a mini-mart gas station?
The facts: 1200 square foot retail space. 4 pumps, no air, we will sell beer & wine, no mechanics, non branded fuel, will have an ATM. 6 to 7000 cars a day drive by this location. It's the busiest street in our small city.
I'm looking for a WOW IDEA!! Something that will make the local TV or radio station have to do a remote broadcast.
Something unique that will have people in town talking about our station. Some thing or event that will have people at least stop in once. If they come in once we can get them to come back in again.

With today's gas prices, I don't have a favorite gas station anymore. I go where the prices are lowest, generally in my own neighborhood, as it doesn't make much sense to drive so far to save a few cents per gallon and then burn up the savings in gas just to get there.
The best way to get more business at a gas station is to make your prices lower than the competition's prices. Back in the days of cheap gas, stations used to have "gas wars" to draw in customers, or double stamp days (back in the days of S&H Green Stamps or Blue Chip stams - yes, I know, I am giving away my age!)
However, since you live in a small town and your's is a privately owned station, you may find this difficult to do since the Mobil station is probably corporate owned and able to buy gasoline cheaper than you do. And stamps are no longer an option.
Build a car wash and offer special rates on washes with each fill-up? You'll have to come up with your own gimmick ... you're the one that lives there and you're the one who knows your town the best. What is it that makes your citizens tick? And what would wind them up?
