Is Being a Script Kiddy All That Bad?

Hey.. I'm 15 and am trying to design my own site for my friends and stuff to hang out on. Basically i learned HTML/CSS/PHP really well about a year ago then WoW came into my life and well.... i lost almost all of it. I've never really been able to make great websites just because i don't know how to use photoshop all that well. I know how to code well.... but my photoshop side is pathetic. So i just got some templates off freecsstemplates.org and was thinking of using them. I know all of the code and understand it completly, i just could never create something like that on my own. I guess its just a pride thing that is bugging me that i have to use someone elses work Anyone have any imput on this? If you have any suggestions as to how NOT to fall into the script kiddy route please post.

As a web developer I would not consider a person who uses a template a script kiddie. There are two types of people in web development: designers and developers. For most simple business sites, a designer can do pretty much the whole thing. However, for larger websites, especially complex web applications, it takes much more knowledge than HTML and CSS. HTML and CSS are easy. The real meat of a web application is the back-end code.

A web developer should be able to do a layout given the images for the design. This does not mean a web developer has to be artistic enough to create a gorgeous design in Photoshop. Art and logic are from two different parts of the brain.

I have taught myself some Photoshop by following tutorials. It is a very good skill for a developer to learn at least the basics of. I am far from the abilities of a graphic designer, but creating a simple attractive layout doesn't take a vast amount of knowledge of Photoshop or art. Needless to say I use the knowledge very little at work (though I do from time to time.) It is used mostly for friends and family who inevitably ask for a website when they find out I am a web developer. Many development companies will desire a basic knowledge in Photoshop, but being at a designer level is not required for most developer roles.
