WoW: Is Tailoring and Alchemy good for a mage?
I am currently level 30 and I have Tailoring and Herbalism as my professions. I am planning to switch to Alchemy soon. I just got Herbalism so I can get herbs to prepare for alchemy.
Was it a bad move?
If it was plz feel free to suggest professions
I think it's just fine.
To be perfectly honest, I've found Alchemy to be one of the most flexible professions out there. Your profession is one of the few that is portable: you can make potions and elixirs anywhere. You also make buffs and potions not only for yourself (but that's a darn good reason-- who wants to pay for mana/health pots when you can make them for free?) but for your guild and groups as well.
Unless you're 100% sold on having the Spellfire, Spellstrike or Shadowweave set on you when you're 70 (and there are decent alternatives), stick with Alch/Herb.
You'll be able to sell the herbs you don't need for your own use, which will bolster your finances incredibly. Speaking as someone who has gone through tailoring/enchanting, while it's a good combination to level (you can DE whatever you don't sell), I found it very restrictive for making cash, since I had no gathering profession. I had to kill mobs to farm for drops rather than node-farming (which always drops ore or herb).
Enchanting is a very expensive profession. You often times end up farming insanely for dropped recipes, and then people will ask you to enchant for free (no tip, nice), or to donate materials to their cause.
Oddly enough, though I have gripes about it, I still kept enchanting; I have too many rare/extremely rare recipes to drop it now.
But tailoring I did drop for Herbalism (to support my alchemist), and eventually dropped Herbalism for Mining, because that's where the cash is on my server.
Your guild will thank you for being able to make flasks for them, you will thank yourself for picking a low-maintenance profession, and your purse will thank you for picking up a gathering profession that you can sell your excess (and earn enough for mounts!).
In the end it's your call, but Herb/Alch is a profession in demand because it creates consumables-- not a "do it once and you're done" item or buff.

WoW profession questions?
I have a 72 warlock with 400 Mining and JC, I'm just starting a Mage now, I'm level 8 and I want to do Engineering.
People tell me to take mining with that, but since I already have mining on another character it's not really worth it is it? I think I'd like to have a gathering craft. So either Herbalism or Skinning. Which should I take? It's not worth taking Mining again is it?
Well, engineering is crazy expensive now that they have released two expansion packs. I would stick with mining, because you will be mining level appropriate nodes for your engineering. Once you have maxed out your engineering, switch from mining to herbalism.
